Hout Bay Car Hire has arranged vehicle hire for more than 20 years, across South Africa and beyond our borders in Namibia and Botswana. You deal directly with Jenny, who sorts the car, the paperwork and the delivery.
Collect from a Cape Town airport at any hour, or have your car brought to your guesthouse, hotel or home. Steering wheel, gear lever, handbrake and seat covers are fitted to every vehicle before delivery and after collection.
Every rate includes full-cover insurance, and international visitors get zero excess on most vehicles.
Needed a car at short notice over a long weekend. Jenny arranged delivery to the door within two hours and collected it after hours.

What do I need to hire a car?
You need a valid driver's licence, your passport (or ID book for South African residents) and the credit or debit card used to make the booking. All three must be shown when the car is delivered or collected, and full details are needed to make a booking.
Is insurance included in the price?
Yes. Every rate includes full-cover insurance. There is no cover on tyres and windscreens or on dirt and gravel roads, but extra cover for tyres and windscreens is available. Your excess depends on the vehicle and on whether you are an international or South African client — see the rates on the Car Rentals page.
Can you deliver a car to my guesthouse or home in Hout Bay?
Yes. We deliver and collect Monday to Friday 08:00–17:00 and Saturday and Sunday 09:00–12:00. A delivery charge may apply. Cars can also be collected or returned at Cape Town airports at any hour.
Are kilometres limited?
Hires of 2 to 6 days include 300 km free per day. From 7 days the kilometres are unlimited. The Toyota Fortuner and the 1-ton bakkie include 200 km per day, and extra kilometres on the Fortuner are R9.00 each.
Do you have automatic and manual cars?
Both. Use the Transmission filter on the Car Rentals page to see manual or automatic cars only.
Can I add a GPS, child seat or driver?
GPS units and baby and child seats are available for an extra charge. We can also arrange a chauffeur driver or a registered tour guide — just ask when you book.
